Commuting by car can be a real pain so choosing the right car for your commute is massively important, not necessarily because it will make the journey quicker but it could make it less stressful. The cars which we favour would be ones which score high in comfort, refinement and equipment which can make those trips more bearable. I have put together a small list of those cars which match the criteria.
The Used BMW 5 series is a contender for the best commuting car. It provides all the refinement, equipment and quality as you might well expect from a big executive saloon, it also doesn’t cost the earth to buy or run either. The 5 series has comfortable seats and an easy-to-use infotainment system and the cabin is very quiet at speed with the miles rolling effortlessly. If you are looking for ultimate cruising comfort then make sure you get the car with the variable damper control system which lets you adjust the ride quality.
The Second Hand Citroen C4 Grand Picasso is next up. The seven-seater is perfect in servicing as both a commuter and for shuttling in between home and school. The C4 has an edgy design, and in my opinion is one of the fines-looking MPVs on the market. Don’t get me wrong it’s not the most exciting car to drive. It comes equipped with all the equipment you might expect and stylish interior with the comfort being focused on those in the rear seats.
The Used Mercedes-Benz S Class is one of the best luxury cars money can buy. It’s sophisticated, full of desirable tech. The car comes equipped with 20 driver-assistance systems, which can see in the dart, utilise a raft of camera and sensors for 360-degree vision, the luxury badge can basically steer itself, making the driving task even more stress free.
A car which couldn’t go without mentioning is the Used BMW 3 Series, which is BMW’s most popular model, and its stunning looks with its unrivalled driving dynamics. It’s one of the best if not the best to drive in this class which makes it an easy choice to pick when looking for a commuting car. The favourite 3 series for me is the 318d which has my favourite engine, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, giving the combination of smooth power and plenty of grunt and has impressive fuel economy of 65.7mpg.
Finally to make my list is the Used Mazda CX-5. This car is generally built for the small families and if you want something more fun to drive than an MPV and more economical than a 4×4 then the Mazda CX-5 crossover is for you. Its main competitor is the Used Nissan Qashqai, but the CX-5 is roomier and also gives a more rewarding drive.
